May Book Club Meet-Up: All We Need Is Love Poetry

The theme for our next Bonnections book club meeting on May 4th is LOVE. May is the month of love in Germany. That’s why we want to share and read love poetry from different parts of the world.

“Love does not dominate, it cultivates,” German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once famously said.

So let’s instill in ourselves the wisdom of love, as the beloved Egyptian novelist and Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz recommended.

“As for life’s tragedies, our love will defeat them. Love is the most effective cure. In the crevices of disasters, happiness lies like a diamond in a mind, so let us instill in ourselves the wisdom of love.” – Naguib Mahfouz (1911-2006)

Please send us by April 28 your favorite love poems from around the world, your personal definition of love, lovely photos taken in Bonn or pictures of your loved ones via Facebook using the hashtag #bonnections.

You are also welcome to read your own poems. Please share your writings and thoughts, suggest poets and books in the Bonnections Goodreads Group or leave a comment below. We’d like to read the poetry in the original language and, if possible, provide a German or English translation to the audience via screen and/or handsouts.
